National Canadian Film Day (CanFilmDay) is a really big party, and you’re invited!

CanFilmDay has taken root as our largest annual celebration of Canadian culture, and it’s a unique opportunity for you to share what our French-language community has to offer.

Host a free local screening and take part in this cross-country event alongside over a thousand communities on Wednesday, April 15. Scroll down to see the full list of films we’ve programmed exclusively for your organization.

An opera composer (Antoine Bertrand) suffering from writer’s block is unexpectedly entrusted with caring for his orphaned niece who he’s never met. While her rebellious and eccentric nature proves to be a challenge, she may be exactly the inspiration that he needs.


Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe

This heartwarming documentary showcases the universally celebrated and uniquely Canadian children’s programme u003ciu003eMr. Dressupu003c/iu003e, exploring its roots, its enduring legacy, and how it stayed true to its aim throughout its run of almost 30 years. Winner of the People’s Choice Award for Best Documentary at TIFF.


Incendies

A life in Canada, a secret past in Jordan. A dying mother in Montreal leaves separate letters to her twin children to be read once she passes away, sending them each on a journey that unearths dark family secrets. Released 15 years ago, Denis Villeneuve’s celebrated adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad’s award-winning play is explosive, frightening and emotionally intense. Winner of eight Genie Awards and nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.rn


The Queen of My Dreams

Azra, a young Queer Pakistani-Canadian woman, starts to reconnect with her estranged mother when they reunite in Pakistan for her father’s funeral. Sumptuously capturing parallel coming-of-age stories in Pakistan in the 1960s and 1990s, this brilliant first feature is an instant classic.rn


Seeds

In this tense thriller, a Mohawk internet personality receives her first sponsorship, promoting the seed and fertilizer company Nature’s Oath. But when she returns to her reservation, she discovers a dark side to the company that threatens both her and her people.rn


Universal Language (آواز بوقلمون)

Set in an alternate universe where Canada’s official languages are French and Persian, this charming and surreal fable follows a triptych of seemingly unrelated stories of people navigating a bleak Winnipeg winter. This acclaimed second feature from Matthew Rankin was Canada’s submission for the Oscars, and is a perfect balance of poignant and hilarious.
