VIA Rail Contest – Rules and Regulations


REEL CANADA’S VIA Rail National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) Screening Participant Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by REEL CANADA (the “Sponsor”). The Contest begins at 9:00:01 AM Eastern Time (“ET”) on February 20, 2017, and ends at 11:59:59 PM ET on April 28, 2017 (the “Contest Period”). The Contest is open to all Canadian citizens (including Quebec). Contest winners must comply with VIA Rail travel guidelines. By entering the Contest, eligible participants agree that the contest Sponsor reserves the right to publish without compensation the full name, city of residence and photograph of the winner, and eligible participants waive all rights with respect to printed, broadcast and other forms of publicity. Eligible participants further agree that all entries submitted and their content become the property of the contest Sponsor and will not be returned.

By accepting a prize, the winner will be required to accept and acknowledge that his/her use of the VIA Rail gift certificate is voluntary and that there are natural factors and other occurrences, which may impact or affect the safety of the activities he/she is participating in, assume the risk of such factors and occurrences and agree that The Sponsor and VIA Rail shall not be in any way be responsible for any resulting injury and/or death.


Each successful entry will be entered to win one of three VIA Rail gift certificates. Grand prize, approximate value: $2,000 CAD, 2nd prize, approximate value $1,000 and 3rd prize, approximate value $100 awarded during the Contest Period. 
The prizes are not exchangeable, transferable or convertible to cash or credit, must be accepted as awarded and travel on VIA Rail complete by, December 31, 2017. The prize will be sent via Canada Post using the contact information provided by the participant at the time of contest entry.


NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter the Contest go to and complete and submit the ballot by filling in all required contact information fields including name, city, province and e-mail. Successful entries must solve a skill-testing question and submit all required fields.

Only one e-mail address and account may be used to enter the Contest. Should duplicate entries be received, all such entries will be ineligible. In the event of a dispute regarding the identity of an entrant, the entry will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry (i.e., the person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domains associated with the submitted e-mail address). Should it be discovered that an entrant is using the aid of computer programs to auto-fill entries, that entrant will be disqualified from the Contest; and the Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify all such entrants from future contests conducted by the Sponsor without further notice.

Entries must be received by no later than 11:59:59 PM ET on April 28, 2017.  A random draw from all entries from the eligible participants during the Contest Period to select the winner of the Grand Prize, 2nd Prize and 3rd Prize will be held at the REEL CANADA office located at 720 Bathurst Street, Toronto, ON, on May 1, 2017, at 10 am EST.

If the selected entrant does not respond via email, phone or voicemail within three (3) business days of the last email or phone call, or is contacted but is deemed to be ineligible in The Sponsor’s sole discretion, or is unable or unwilling to comply with these official rules, that selected entrant will be disqualified and another entrant will be randomly selected from the remaining eligible entries and contacted in accordance with the rules. The Sponsor is not responsible for any change in an entrant’s email address.

Entering the contest The Sponsor takes no responsibility for entries that are lost, misdirected, delayed, or which are received after the Contest Period. By submitting an entry, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and all decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding on all entrants without right of appeal. No correspondence will be undertaken except with the selected eligible participants, whose eligible entry was drawn. Once an eligible participant is declared a winner by the Sponsor, the Sponsor will send the eligible participant a letter containing the details on how to redeem his/her Grand Prize, 2nd Prize, 3rd Prize (i.e. reservation of VIA Rail).


To be eligible, you must be a resident of Canada (including Quebec) and submit a completed entry ballot including correctly answering the mathematical skill-testing question. If, at the time of travel, the Contest winner has not reached the age of majority in his/her jurisdiction of residence, he/she must adhere to VIA Rail’s travel requirements. The Contest winner is solely responsible for securing all required travel documentation. You are not eligible if, at any point during the Contest Period you are, or you live with, an employee, representative or agent of the Sponsor, its affiliates or licensees.
