Don McKellar

A Member of the Order of Canada, McKellar is a prolific writer, filmmaker and actor whose work has garnered numerous awards. He wrote Highway 61, The Red Violin and Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould, and he wrote, directed and starred in Childstar and Last Night (which won the Prix de la jeunesse at the Cannes film festival). As an actor, he has starred in films such as Meditation Park and David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future. McKellar has also worked extensively in television, directing the series Sensitive Skin, as well as creating and showrunning The Sympathizer with Park Chan-wook.

Kelly Fyffe-Marshall

Kelly Fyffe-Marshall is a Canadian director, screenwriter, and social activist best known for her two-part short film Black Bodies, which won the Changemaker Award at TIFF 2020 and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Live Action Short Drama. Her other directing credits include the short films Reason Enough, Haven, Black White Blue, and Trap City. Her first feature film, When Morning Comes, premiered in the Discovery program at TIFF 2022 to critical acclaim.

François Bouvier

Film and TV director Bouvier was nominated for the Best Director Genie in 1990 for his film Les matins infidèles. Since then, he has directed numerous television shows and films, including Histoires d'hiver and Maman Last Call, starring Patrick Huard. He recently directed the TV series Ruptures and the film La Bolduc. Currently he is completing work on the film La Cordonnière.

Richard J. Lewis

Lewis’s television credits include episodes of Due South, Power Play, Beggars and Choosers, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Person of Interest and many others. His critically acclaimed debut feature, Whale Music, won four Genie Awards. Recently, he has been directing for television, including episodes of Westworld and Penny Dreadful, and is currently producing the series Trigger Me.

Gilles Carle

An important figure in the development of Québec cinema, Carle was a prolific filmmaker whose work includes shorts and feature films, documentaries, and television. He made several films with the NFB, including the classic La vie heureuse de Léopold Z. His credits also include Les Plouffe, La Vraie nature de Bernadette and Maria Chapdelaine. An Officer of the Order of Canada, a Grand Officer of the Ordre National du Québec and a Knight in France’s Légion d'honneur, he has received numerous international prizes, Genies, Canadian Film Awards and a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

Don Owen

Owen was a pioneer of English Canadian filmmaking who joined the NFB in 1960, where he worked as a cinematographer on the short film À Saint-Henri le cinq septembre and directed the short Runner. His first feature, Nobody Waved Goodbye, won a BAFTA and is considered a classic of Canadian cinema. His directing credits include Notes for a Film About Donna & Gail, The Ernie Game (which won the Canadian Film Awards for best feature and direction), Partners, and Unfinished Business. Ladies and Gentlemen… Mr. Leonard Cohen won the Canadian Film Award for Best TV Information.

Michael McGowan

McGowan made his film debut as a writer, director and producer with My Dog Vincent, and directed Saint Ralph, One Week, Score: A Hockey Musical and Still Mine, which was named by TIFF as one of Canada’s Top 10 films in 2012. He recently directed TV shows Reign and Between and wrote the film The Etruscan Smile. His most recent film, All My Puny Sorrows, premiered at TIFF 2021.
