National Screen Institute presents The Tomahawk

About the Film

The Tomahawk is a short film shot in The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation in March 2022 by writer/director Steven Bignell and producer Stuart Matheson.

Featuring local cast and crew, The Tomahawk follows an experienced Cree scout and a lost German boy during World War II. They put their differences aside and try to make their way home in war-torn Germany.

Steven was mentored by Academy Award®-nominated director Sturla Gunnarsson, who will attend the event. The film was developed through NSI New Northern Voices – a training program delivered by the National Screen Institute to build workforce capacity in northern Manitoba.
