In Memoriam: Donald Shebib

This National Canadian Film Day, we sadly have to commemorate the passing of a true pioneer of the Canadian Film industry, Don Shebib. His groundbreaking work and dedication to telling Canadian Stories in Canada shaped the industry throughout its formative decades, and paved the way for the careers of many filmmakers across the country.

His films, including his seminal classic Goin’ Down the Road, have inspired generations of filmmakers, and his legacy will continue to live on both in his films and in all the Canadians who saw a path for themselves in this industry because of his work.

He will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten.

There are special events on National Canadian Film Day paying tribute to Don Shebib:

In Vancouver: The Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) presents a special screening of Goin’ Down the Road.

In Ottawa: The Canadian Film Institute is proud to present Goin’ Down the Road. The screening will feature a discussion with special guests.
